Abstract

Introduction: In patients with early childhood caries (ECC) and lack of cooperation, intermediate treatments should often be considered to stop the progression of caries lesions and preserve pulp vitality. The use of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) has proven to be a useful cariostatic agent in caries management, being more effective than other non-invasive methods, however, the change in color of the treated tooth is the main barrier to use it. Case report: Informed consent. Patient 2 years old, Frankl 1, evolving primary dentition, high cariogenic risk, severe early childhood caries. Application of SDF in anterior and posterior caries lesions, mother is instructed to control cariogenic risk factors. Positive results are observed after one and two months of application, however, the family group does not maintain oral hygiene and diet control, resulting in the advancement of the previous lesions and pulpal necrosis. Conclusion: The use of SDF is an effective strategy in the arrest of caries lesions only when there is an optimal control of cariogenic risk factors in preschool patients with lack of cooperation.
