Abstract

Introduction: Supernumerary teeth are developmental anomalies that arise as a result of multiple etiologies, where dental units are present in greater numbers and alter the numerical scheme of normal dentition, such as mesiodens, which is the most common type of anomaly. Objective: to show the adequate surgical clinical management of a mesiodens to improve aesthetics, function, avoid possible complications and reduce the need for subsequent treatment. Material and methods: Clinical and imaging tests were performed to obtain an accurate diagnosis, essential to provide adequate information and ensure a successful procedure and treatment. Results: Treatment was planned with the protocol established by the UCSM pediatric dentistry specialty, showing the persistence of tooth 5.1 and tooth 2.1 in the process of eruption. Surgical intervention was performed on the deciduous tooth and the inverted, conical mesiodens supernumerary, tooth included, between the upper central incisors in close relation to the nasopalatine canal at the level of the midline post-surgical containment. Currently the patient is undergoing clinical controls, observing the good patient evolution. Conclusions: The importance of addressing this type of case in early stages with a multidisciplinary approach allows us to comprehensively manage the pediatric dentistry patient.
