Abstract

Introduction: Cariogenic risk assessment in children is essential for pediatric dental practice, given the high prevalence of dental caries and its implications for oral and general health. Objective: Identifying risk factors from an early age makes it possible to apply personalized preventive measures, promoting healthy habits in the long term. Case presentation: Patient aged 7 years and 2 months, who after extensive dental treatment for high cariogenic risk, persists at high risk in her subsequent dental check-up. This persistence underlines the importance that despite the success of her intraoral treatment, it is important to implement additional preventive strategies and constant surveillance of oral health, in addition to demonstrating that intraoral treatment limits the damage, but does not necessarily change the risk of developing new caries lesions. Continuity in risk assessment over time is essential to adjust the treatment plan and ensure comprehensive and effective care. Conclusion: The importance of considering different methods of caries risk diagnosis, such as the Malmö Cariogram, the CAMBRA form and the CERO guideline of the Chilean Ministry of Health, to accurately identify patients with greater susceptibility to dental caries is emphasized.
