Abstract

Introduction: molar incisor hypomineralization is a qualitative defect of tooth enamel that affects at least one first permanent molar and often the permanent incisors. So far, available evidence indicates that its etiology is multifactorial and includes pre, peri, and postpartum factors, with genetic and epigenetic influences. This change can present several clinical problems such as enamel fracture and dentin sensitivity and its treatment is variable, individualized and challenging. Case report: reports a case of an 11-year-old female patient with aesthetic complaints, which caused her to suffer bullying and dentin sensitivity. The clinical examination showed loss of enamel structure, teeth with color changes, unsatisfactory restorations and the absence of a dental element. The patient was diagnosed with severe Molar incisor Hypomineralization. The proposed treatment included 4 sessions of dentin desensitization combining with therapy with Duraphat® fluoride varnish (5% NaF) and low-power laser Therapy EC® at 3J and aesthetic restorations with composite resin in the upper central incisors. Conclusion: the treatment offered to the patient was effective in resolving her complaints and improving her quality of life and also that it is necessary to carry out new studies on the treatment of this condition with the aim of reducing or eliminating the negative impacts on lives of individuals affected by this defect.
