Abstract

Introduction: The Pediatric Dentistry and Maxillary Orthopedics Program at Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAL) consolidates 45 years of experience in comprehensive interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary hospital-based training at Fundación Hospital Pediátrico la Misericordia (HOMI), Bogotá. This pioneering model integrates academic excellence with social responsibility, training specialists committed to caring for vulnerable pediatric populations. Objective: Present the postgraduate program and analyze its impact on the consolidation of clinical, research, and social competencies during more than four decades of hospital-based experience. Project Presentation: Residents integrate into multidisciplinary teams, developing competencies to prevent, diagnose, and treat pediatric patients with and without complex medical pathologies. This clinical immersion develops skills for evidence-based therapeutic decision-making and collaborative interprofessional management. Through this hospital-based training experience, the program seeks to achieve a holistic transdisciplinary vision that transcends traditional barriers between specialties, preparing professionals capable of addressing the complexity of child health. Conclusions: The results obtained consolidate pediatric dentistry and maxillary orthopedics as a fundamental specialty in the care of children and adolescents, demonstrating a socially committed training approach that positions graduates as leaders in the scientific and clinical development of the specialty in the country.
