Abstract

Introduction: Oral health promotion aims to improve quality of life and prevent diseases, reducing the need for invasive procedures. The WHO emphasizes the reduction of modifiable lifestyle-related risk factors. Artificial intelligence (AI) represents a promising advancement for transforming dentistry and may serve as an effective and appealing tool to encourage oral hygiene habits. Objective: To analyze the available evidence on the use of artificial intelligence in oral health promotion and prevention. Review: A literature search was conducted in PubMed and Scopus using the terms artificial intelligence, AI, dental health promotion, dental health education. In PubMed, 149 articles were found, of which 7 were included. In Scopus, 7 articles were identified, with 4 included and 1 excluded due to lack of access. Inclusion criteria were: AI, mobile apps, and oral health promotion. A total of 9 articles were selected. Conclusions and Recommendations: Artificial intelligence is transforming preventive dentistry, shifting from manual processing to automated approaches through smart toothbrushes and mobile applications. These tools enhance oral hygiene, provide feedback, and personalize prevention strategies, supporting patient self-care. AI holds great potential in promoting oral health, making it more efficient, engaging, and accessible.
