Against time and prognosis: reimplantation of a young permanent tooth that it worth It – Case Report

Abstract

Introduction: Tooth avulsion is one of the most severe traumatic injuries in pediatric dentistry, especially when it affects permanent teeth in children. Prognosis depends largely on extraoral time and the medium in which the tooth is stored. Case Report: A 9-year-old male patient was involved in a traffic accident and suffered avulsion of the right maxillary central incisor, which was found on the floor of the vehicle. Through an immediate teledentistry consultation, instructions were provided to preserve the tooth in an appropriate medium. The following day, in-person care was performed, including socket irrigation, extraoral endodontic treatment, and reimplantation under local anesthesia. A flexible splint was placed, and postoperative care was indicated. Conclusions: This case shows that even when performed beyond the ideal time frame, late reimplantation can offer temporary aesthetic and functional benefits in young permanent dentition. It also highlights the importance of first-aid dental education and timely access to teledentistry tools.
