The toothbrushing calendar as a reinforcer of children's oral hygiene
Keywords:
toothbrushing calendar, prevention, oral hygieneAbstract
Hygiene habits, particularly toothbrushing, are the main axis of prevention. Limited psychomotor development, low motivation, and lack of supervision from the caregiver hinder the correct brushing technique. Oral health programs that include visual tools, such as a toothbrushing calendar, have emerged as effective strategies. They work as visual reminders, boost motivation, actively involve caregivers, and strengthen the patient–pediatric dentist relationship. Defined as a graphic tool that records daily brushing, it acts as a positive behavioral reinforcement that promotes healthy routines. Its implementation facilitates self-care and reduces anxiety associated with dental visits.
