Training of students in pediatric dentistry: a narrative review

Introduction: Pediatric dentistry education has changed in recent years, with the scientific literature suggesting a gap between students' willingness to provide care to children. Objective: To explore and analyze the training of dental students for the care of pediatric patients. Literature review: A search was conducted in electronic databases and articles were found referring to students' and teachers' perspectives on pediatric dentistry education, the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on pediatric dentistry learning, and training experiences in pediatric dentistry teaching. Conclusions and recommendations: The literature review covers the challenges and specific needs in pediatric dentistry training, with the aim of improving pediatric dental care and ensuring the oral health of future generations. It is essential to continue researching and developing innovative educational strategies that respond to the changing demands of this field, in order to improve the quality of pediatric dental care.
