Using simulated clinical scenarios in pediatric dentistry for active learning.
Keywords:
simulation training, active learningAbstract
Introduction: Clinical training in pediatric dentistry faces the challenge of providing safe, controlled, and effective experiences for the development of professional competencies. In this context, clinical simulation emerges as an innovative pedagogical tool that promotes active, reflective, and meaningful learning in protected environments. Objective: To implement simulated clinical scenarios and the use of standardized patients as an educational strategy to strengthen clinical, communication, and decision-making competencies in pediatric dentistry students. Project presentation: Clinical simulation sessions were designed and implemented in which students interacted with simulated and standardized patients in representative cases of pediatric dental practice. The methodology included prebriefing, case execution, and reflective debriefing. This structure favored self-regulated learning, evidence-based clinical decision-making, and the consolidation of communication skills in a safe and supervised environment. Conclusions: The results of the project show a high level of acceptance by students, who reported increased self-confidence, motivation, and appreciation of clinical simulation learning. Likewise, the teaching staff reported an enrichment of the training process, highlighting the usefulness of simulation as a bridge between theory and clinical practice.
