Abstract

Introduction: Supernumeraries are dental anomalies of number, that can cause alterations in the development of phonation, occlusion and aesthetics, altering self-esteem. Interdisciplinary treatment is required: Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics, Surgery and Speech therapy to achieve adequate articulation of phonemes, avoid malocclusions and alterations in dental eruption. Objective: To state the importance of multidisciplinary dental and phonoaudiological treatment to improve the general health and quality of life of a patient with mesiodens. Case report: School child, 8 years 9 months, with mixed expressive language disorder. Frankl 3. Mixed dentition second stage. High cariogenic risk, in caries activity. Presence of two supernumeraries palatal to the maxillary central incisors. Conventional dental treatment in conjunction with speech therapy sessions were performed. Discussion: Mesiodens is the most frequent anomaly of number, affecting mainly the maxillary incisors. Its early diagnosis allows sooner treatment to avoid alterations in basic functions such as chewing, phonation and breathing. During the school period and due to the presence of supernumerary teeth, the child's psychological state can be affected by a negative impact on self-esteem and socialization. This can lead to possible bullying at school, modifying the child's mood. Multidisciplinary work is essential for comprehensive health care, contributing to the general well-being of the patient. Conclusion: Multidisciplinary treatment has a significant impact on improving the patient's quality of life. Timely referrals between health professionals allow good clinical results that contribute to the overall health of children.
